The contents of the “Weekly Feature” page are provided
to you for your entertainment, amusement, and perhaps information.
Here you may find articles of interest, pictures, historical information
on the Club, or whatever shuffles to the top of the pile on our
desk. The only defined characteristic of this space is that we
will make every effort to change/replace it around the middle of
each week. Thank you for visiting, and please stop by again. Click

‘TIS THE SEASON……
The MMOGTA Party Season, that is. Even though the
Thanksgiving through New Year’s season is a busy one for all
of us, the members and friends of the MMOGTA are always eager to set
aside an evening to attend
the annual Christmas Meeting/Party held at the KofC Hall in Chesaning.
Always one of the biggest of the year, in terms of attendance, as well
as entertainment value, the gathering is a great opportunity to get
back together with old friends again, and have a little fun in the
process.
Of course, it’s business first, but my historical observations
indicate that brevity is the order of the day for the working part
of the evening. The kids in the audience have their eyes trained on
the back door, hoping to catch an early glimpse of the lively old elf
that will visit them a bit later. The tractor pullers are eager to
get their seasonal points awards, or at least see who got it instead
of them. The seniors among us are equally intent on reconnaissance
of the over-flowing dinner table in the back of the room, as strategy
is plotted for the most efficient use of space on the plate. Still
others practice and perfect their stealthiest responses to the auctioneer’s
song at the front of the room, in hope of taking home some still hidden
prize.
The Board, seated at the front, knows that their
primary objective in conducting this meeting is to either stretch or
prolong the business
of the day, with the motion to adjourn being accepted just a moment
before the “ready to serve” sign is flashed from the kitchen.
A hungry crowd is not a patient crowd, this we have learned.
Like a well-oiled machine, the order of events unfolds
right on cue, and the tables are released, one by one, to make the
most of their
moment at the serving tables. And so the fun begins. Ralph brings out
a few bottles of his “best of the season” home-made wines,
the kids get their toys, the pullers their bragging rights, and the
bidders, well, let’s just say there are always winners and losers
at an auction. Since the format of the event is “Blind Auction”,
it could easily be observed that the same person could be both at any
given moment.
The magic of it all lies in the fact that all who
attended got just what they expected, an evening of great food, fun,
and friends. I don’t
know how you define the holiday season, but that pretty well sums it
up for me.
From the Board and membership of the MMOGTA, we wish
a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you, and we leave
you with a few random
pics from the party.
