Where the Rubber Meets the Road

Ahhhh, the smell of burning rubber and exotic fuels, the ear-piercing exhaust notes, over-revving engines, all the stuff guys love. Nope, not NASCAR, it’s the annual September Cement Pull at MMOGTA. A good time was definitely had by all, as the event was graced with a near perfect late summer day, some fine vittles from Franfoods, and a good sized turnout of participants.

I do not think there is a more enthusiastic or dedicated group among the many divisions of the tractor pulling hobby than cement pullers. Literally all of them will gladly rush onto the track to help a competitor when needed, even though he is doing his best to beat them out of a trophy or in this case, a cash prize as well. That’s just the way they are.

It’s always good to see the familiar faces (and hardware) from past seasons, as they take their turn on the cement to do battle with the forces of gravity, friction, and the dreaded time clock. With the 2011 edition of the time honored event, we even broke the gender barrier, as we saw the first female contestant on the track.

A tip of the hat to Tim, Bev, and all the Barancik family for helping keep this exciting sport alive in our neighborhood. We leave you with a few random pictures from an enjoyable afternoon.
