The contents of the “Weekly Feature” page are provided to you for your entertainment, amusement, and perhaps information. Here you may find articles of interest, pictures, historical information on the Club, or whatever shuffles to the top of the pile on our desk. The only defined characteristic of this space is that we will make every effort to change/replace it around the middle of each week. Thank you for visiting, and please stop by again. The Sweet Scent of Spring !

You always notice it, and it always seems so welcome. That one magical day when you open the back door and the sweet smell of spring washes over you. In an instant the harshness of winter is gone, if not forgotten. Maybe there has been a brief shower just before, followed by the appearance of the April sun, but the effect is both instantaneous and overpowering. You may wonder what the chemical components of this magical rush that we all anticipate might be, and even more, where does it come from?? Is it just the absence of snow, or is it the rain washed soil, the buds on the lilac bush, and the fresh green shoots of grass as they reach toward the warming sun? Well, my friends, we can clear up all those nagging questions for you right here on the Weekly Feature page. The answer is a resounding, "Hell No !", to all of those theories. Here in Oakley, the sweet smell of spring is composed of partially burned exotic fuels, old grease, stale September gas from last year, and the vented air from tractor tires as they are pressurized to just the right level to match the track. But that's not all, the magical scent is a complex blend, with a few more airborne molecules added from the first unearthing of the stiff clay that has been left buried and dormant all winter, and the sun-baked smell of the Thompson's water seal as the picnic tables and bleachers see the first light of the season. There is still one critical, final ingredient to this rich olfactory experience that draws us as surely as moths to the flame, the irresistible aroma that wafts gently toward us from the MMOGTA Country Kitchen. The Franfoods team strategically places such fragrant favorites as chili dogs, home baked pies and french fries in the slip-stream of air that moves toward the pavilion, preying on our post hibernation appetites, our weaknesses, our natural instincts. We are drawn like the proverbial lemmings to that precipice, and gladly we leap, right into the 2008 Tractor Pulling Season.

The moral of the story, shake those last frost crystals out of your winter fur, hang the swampers on the fence, put the Stormy Kromer hat back in mothballs, and join us as we begin the 2008 MMOGTA tractor pulling season with the Test N' Tune day, Sunday April 20th, and the T-Sled Opening Day Points Pull on Sunday, April 27th. Food will be available both days.

NOTE: The Webmaster will be away from his post for a brief period beginning on 4-22-08, so this feature will remain in place for an extra week or so.
