The contents of the “Weekly Feature” page are provided
to you for your entertainment, amusement, and perhaps information.
Here you may find articles of interest, pictures, historical information
on the Club, or whatever shuffles to the top of the pile on our
desk. The only defined characteristic of this space is that we
will make every effort to change/replace it around the middle of
each week. Thank you for visiting, and please stop by again. Click

HUNGRY ??
Regular visitors to MMOGTA events are well aware they can always
expect something to be new or different when they join us for a day
or a weekend of fun in Oakley.
New buildings, new hardware, new decorations, new toys, always something
changing at the Showgrounds that has become a second home to many of
us during the warm
weather months. One feature among our main attractions, however, remains
as constant and reliable as the sunrise in the east, and that is, FOOD
!
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, we do eat well
at MMOGTA. Privileged to have our own well equipped kitchen, staffed
with talented, willing
workers, we do eat well, and often. Whether it is just a one day tractor
pull, a social potluck, or the big show in August, folks know they
might go home tired,
they might go home dirty, they might even go home wet, but they damn sure
won’t
go home hungry.
It happens in a variety of formats, during the annual show,
food happens at all corners of the grounds, from the campfires in the
woods to the concessionaires
on the display fields. Bean soup in the kettle, pancakes at the club kitchen,
full course breakfasts from the featured brand area, and everything from
elephant
ears to cotton candy in between.
At the smaller monthly events, we rely
on Fran, Michelle, Chad, and others in the club kitchen to provide
us with top quality, homemade food from
biscuits and gravy in the morning to homemade desserts for the afternoon
break, and
maybe
a chili dog for the ride home. For those of us who work in the announcer’s
booth, the high point of the day is not when the seasonal points standings
are announced, or the trophies are awarded, that’s all just business.
The news that brings a hush over the crowd is when we announce the list
of pie flavors
for the day. You can hear clevises and suitcase weights dropping to the
ground all around us as those country boys head for the kitchen. Think
of the experience
like this; it’s like going out to eat at a great restaurant and then
having a tractor pull break out. Where’s the downside in that ??
We gathered up a few representative photos for a bit of a diner’s
tour at the MMOGTA Showgrounds below. Click individual photos to enlarge,
and remember
Fran’s motto, “Never trust a skinny cook!”
