listen carefully! blacksmith shop TRACTORS

Best field trip ever!” “MMOGTA rocks!” “I LOVE my shingle and my candle and EVERYTHING!” “I thought I floated in heaven when I ate the food!” Those are just a few of the comments written in Thank You notes we received from the  fourth grade students who attended our Annual Rural Living Education Day program the last Friday in September. Students from local schools come vist us for the day, get to see all of old equipment in action, drive a tractor., and have a great lunch.

At Rural Living Education Day, the students learned about the machinery, skills, and processes that provided families with food, clothing and shelter in the early 1900’s. Students experienced a broad variety of activities at  different stations. Some of the activities include watching grain being threshed and shelled and then ground into flour or meal. They see different stages of lumber production, including a saw mill, veneer mill, shingle mill, handle mill, cider mill and blacksmith shop. They have the opportunity to make their own candle, drive an antique tractor, and see how our ancestors lived.

This program is put on at no cost to the schools or students and includes a free lunch served to all involved.
It is through the generous donations of time, money, food, school supplies, and other needed material by our MMOGTA members, local businesses, and individuals that we are able to keep this program free to the schools. We especially thank the following for their continued support and sponsorship:
