The contents of the “Weekly Feature” page are provided
to you for your entertainment, amusement, and perhaps information.
Here you may find articles of interest, pictures, historical information
on the Club, or whatever shuffles to the top of the pile on our
desk. The only defined characteristic of this space is that we
will make every effort to change/replace it around the middle of
each week. Thank you for visiting, and please stop by again. Click

MMOGTA
Christmas Party
As usual, the premier social event of the Holiday season is the annual
MMOGTA Christmas party. Attendance was outstanding, almost literally,
as the overflow
crowd often found themselves doing just that, standing out in the aisles as
the tables were all filled. Part of the program was dedicated to business,
finishing
off the T-Sled points season by handing out the awards to the big winners for
the 2007 pulling competition. Proud winners were seen leaving with their new
coats clutched tightly in their arms.
In keeping with the spirit of the season, Santa arrived right on
time to surprise all the little rug rats, curtain climbers, and ankle
biters in the crowd. It
just isn’t Christmas without kids and gifts. Thanks, Cindy and your
various elves for putting this part of the program together, the scene was
priceless
as all the kids gathered around the Claus man and eagerly awaited their turn.
Central
to all of our social events is the buffet food table, and this was perhaps
our finest hour in that regard. Fran and her helpers did the setup,
and all of
the many talented cooks in our group provided their best dish to fill out
what was just a magnificent spread.
As always, we finished the evening
with Honest Bill running the now famous Blind Auction. Christmas wishes
were fulfilled by the dozens as eager bidders
unburdened
their wallets and proved their prowess in the fast paced world of competitive
finance. The “hot corner” up in the front held up their end
and protected their reputation for not letting a bargain pass, though they
are now referred
to as “Willie and the Poor Boys”. Over the years we have become
accustomed to rather creative gifting in this event, and, as always there
are some true
values to be found. Overfed bidders this year were nearly caught off guard
as suddenly the auctioneer pulled forth the most coveted item of all, the
one-of-a-kind
Lynn Garber “Rookie of the Year” collectors card. It was like
finding a Ty Cobb original card at a garage sale. Bidding started at 25
cents until a
sharp eyed sports fan finally recognized the rare item and brought the
final bid to some $18. I’m sure the story will be retold for years
about the one that almost got away.
