The contents of the “Weekly Feature” page are provided to you for your entertainment, amusement, and perhaps information. Here you may find articles of interest, pictures, historical information on the Club, or whatever shuffles to the top of the pile on our desk. The only defined characteristic of this space is that we will make every effort to change/replace it around the middle of each week. Thank you for visiting, and please stop by again. Running out the Clock

Around here, when the clock strikes “September”, (I love a mixed metaphor) most people’s attention turns to football, and all of the buzz that surrounds it. The 2012 season started out with lots of comedy fodder generated by the striking officials that seemed to leave the game in chaos, but didn’t seem to change my life by any great measure. One feature of pro football that caught my attention as a recently televised game was drawing to a close, was the practice of “running out the clock”, where the team in the lead employs the time-killing strategy to retain their lead while taking no risk. Granted, those guys probably feel they don’t get paid enough to go that extra mile/yard without any promise of reward, and I know we’re all sensitive to their plight, but here in Oakley we use a little different philosophy. As the season draws to a close at the MMOGTA Showgrounds, instead of taking a knee and allowing the clock to run out, we all seem determined to pack as much activity into that last month as we can. As evidence of this fact, I offer the September events calendar for our club. After Labor Day, the entire month was filled with two-day weekend events, including the Bridge Crossing, Cement pull, 2 weekend dead weight pulls, Education Day, and 2 T-Sled points pulls, in addition to our regular monthly meeting. That’s a busy month, by any definition. Maybe it’s that Michigan mentality born into us, you know, that little voice in the back of our heads that keeps reminding us that “winter is just around the corner”. Whatever the motivation, as the end of the outdoor sports season approaches, we seem compelled to fill every moment with events, knowing that soon we’ll be swinging the gate closed on another great year at the MMOGTA Showgrounds.

I, for one, should certainly welcome a break in the activity level, given the neglected state of the club’s website in recent weeks. In an attempt to remedy that situation, we’ll start out this week by bringing you some photos generated by the recent Fall Classic Cement Pull at the Showgrounds. Further, it is my plan to spotlight the 2012 Education Day program with a series of photos taken at that event. (Accessed from the home page). Not wanting my ambitions to outpace my time, we’ll stop there for this week’s promises, but in the words of John Phipp (Farm Show guy on TV), “next week, we’ll be working hard to do even better”.
