The contents of the “Weekly Feature” page are provided to you for your entertainment, amusement, and perhaps information. Here you may find articles of interest, pictures, historical information on the Club, or whatever shuffles to the top of the pile on our desk. The only defined characteristic of this space is that we will make every effort to change/replace it around the middle of each week. Thank you for visiting, and please stop by again. And So It Begins

We all know Spring is kind of a crap shoot here in Michigan, but you just have to grit your teeth, set your mind, pick a date, and deal with the consequences later. Each year, we plan the Club calendar in January, not knowing what April will bring. Some years its sunburn, some years its snow.

In the week leading up to our first field event of the 2010 season, we experienced 80 degree temps, and hard freezes, so the only real conclusion we can reach is that it could have been better, and it could have been worse. What we ended up with was a very chilly start to a day that ended up being not warm, but tolerable. We’ll take it.

The 2010 version of Test-N-Tune Day included our first attempt at a Spring Swap Meet at the Grounds, which looks to me like it will end up being a good idea. There was quite a variety of stuff on display by over a dozen vendors, despite the less than perfect conditions. Having established the precedent, and given the pairing with the T-Sled practice day, it seems like this could turn into a successful annual event.

As always, Test-N-Tune Day was well attended by those eager to try out new equipment, strategy, tires, and all the various secrets cooked up by the participants over the preceding winter. Of course there is the added attraction of having a day of tractor pulling, without any competition. No winners, no losers, no keeping score. Kinda puts the fun back in the sport. Each year brings some eager new faces and interesting new hardware, as well.

It may seem like a sound bite from a Jeff Foxworthy routine, but it really is a social occasion as well. You get to catch up on all the BS with your buddies, see how the showgrounds has withstood the intervening winter, and sample the best Sloppy Joes north of Oakley. I realize it might not appeal to everybody, but for the folks I associate with, it beats the hell out of shoveling snow and watching Dancing with the Stars.

Here’s a random look around at the weekend.
